What is PRP and how does it work?
“PRP” Platelet Rich Plasma therapy is an effective non-surgical healing treatment. It’s also known as the “Vampire Facial” or “Vampire Facelift”. Such therapy has a lot of advantages. For example, it uses a very small amount of a patient’s own blood to regenerate soft tissue and reduce the signs of aging.
A portion of blood (20cc to 55cc) is taken from the individual patient into a syringe. It is quite small amount (compared to blood donation for example, which removes 500cc). The blood is spun down in a special centrifuge to separate its components (Red Blood Cells, Platelet Rich Plasma, and Plasma). The PRP is initial separated then activated with atiny low quantity of calcium to permit the discharge of growth factors from the platelets that successively amplifies the healing method. This Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) is then injected into the treatment areas.
When PRP Is injected into the damaged skin area it causes a light inflammation that triggers the healing cascade. Because of possibility of the platelets to organize within the clot they unleash variety of enzymes to push healing and tissue responses as well as attracting stem cells to repair the damaged area. As a result new collagen begins to develop. When the collagen matures it begins to shrink causing the tightening and strengthening of the damaged area. When the skin is injured by the treatment, it naturally starts to induce a remodelling of the tissue to a healthier and younger state condition.
PRP makes your body to regenerate soft tissue by itself and reduce signs of aging to smooth away wrinkles, improve overall complexion and diminish scars, and skin folds.
The full procedure takes about 45 minutes to 1 hr. You won’t be waiting for the results for a long period of time. The changes become visible after few days after the procedure. There are 2-3 treatments which are advised, but for some individuals it can be more. The great improvements are seen after 6 to 12 weeks lasting 12 + months. Touch up treatment may be done once a year after the initial group of treatments to boost and maintain the results.
